What causes a toilet to leak from the base when flushing?

Most base leaks during a flush come from a failed wax ring seal. Loose or corroded closet bolts or a cracked toilet flange can also let water escape at the floor. In Odessa and Keystone, we repair these by resetting the toilet with a new seal, tightening or replacing bolts, or rebuilding the flange as needed. If water pools around the base, avoid repeated flushing to prevent subfloor damage.

Quick checks:

  • Gently snug the two closet bolts.
  • Check for rocking; wobble means the seal is compromised.
  • Dry the area, flush once, and look for fresh seepage.
